The Three Eagle Trail is one of the most popular trails in the Northwoods and offers great all-around hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. Free parking is available at both trailheads in Eagle River and Three Lakes. Free parking is also available at the mid-route trail heads at Sundstein Road, and at the trailhead for the cross country ski trail off of Highway 45. Both mid-route trailheads as well as Don Burnside Park have restrooms available.
The trail system is comprised of a couple different sections that connect Eagle River and Three Lakes. The complete system is about 12.7 miles in length. Much of the Three Eagle Trail is located on land owned and managed by Tera Lila.
The Three Eagle Trail is truly a 4 season trail system with excellent skiing & snowshoeing in the winter on 5 mile stretch. The volunteers do a great job keeping it groomed for both classic and skate skiing.
The trail is supported by the Three Eagle Trail Foundation, whose goal is to develop, construct and maintain a safe, family friendly, biking and walking transportation route connecting the Town of Three Lakes and the City of Eagle River.
The trail is largely off-road, pedestrian pathways surfaced with crushed, compacted limestone, an ideal surface for biking, walking and running. Separating two sections by about 1.5 miles are asphalt surfaced town roads, Sundstein Road and Section 9 Road. The plan for the future is to connect the two sections with another off-road route.
