Big Lake Campground is a larger rustic camping destination in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. It is a quiet, out of the way campground that offers privacy and solitude while still being close to nearby towns. The campground is located in between Manitowish Waters & Presque Isle, Wisconsin.

Big Lake is an 835-acre lake is known for excellent fishing of walleye, musky and smallmouth bass, and has a boat landing for campers. The campground also offers an open beach area and bathrooms close by.

Big Lake Campground offers 70 campsites, 2 of which are available to reserve as double sites and accommodate up to 12 people. If you are looking for quiet, spaced-out sites, the
back loop may be just what you are looking for. Lake sites offer wonderful views from the campground on the northwest corner of the lake. The campground has three hand pumps for drinking water as well as four vault toilet buildings. There are no electric sites in the campground, however generators are allowed to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Firewood is also available on site for purchase. A State Parks and Forest Admission Sticker is required for camping.

There are some excellent hiking and biking opportunities nearby to explore. Some of these trails include: the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail & the ever-popular Winman Trails system.

Big Lake Campground is a reservation only campground, so make sure you visit their website and see what is available. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance of your stay.
