Lac Vieux Desert Campground is a gorgeous campground operated by the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Service. It is located in between Phelps and Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin. This provides a great spot to set up camp and explore the northern end of the state or drive down to the busier Eagle River area.

The campground offers 31 sites to choose from. They are all available on a first come, first served basis. The area where you will be camping is rich in history dating all the way back to the native tribes that inhabited this area for centuries. Lac Vieux Desert has often been translated as Lake of the Desert. However, in Canadian-French it means an old clearing and refers to cultivation of land by native people on the islands of the lake.

Lac Vieux Desert is a gorgeous lake and provides the headwaters of the mighty Wisconsin River. Water that begins in Lac Vieux Desert will travel down the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi River and eventually all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Lac Vieux Desert Campground provides a boat landing and access to excellent year-round fishing opportunities on the lake. The lake shares a border with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so be sure to check out the border regulations before fishing. The lake is known for its musky, walleye, bass, and northern pike. Pets are allowed as well, but please be sure to keep them on a leash.
